Welcome to Nantucket, and a very special community at the head of the harbor.

We think this is a wonderful locale, more reminiscent of a relaxed beach summer on Nantucket 40 years ago than the hubbub of today, but updated with cable, high-speed internet, air conditioning, and other amenities.

“Nippanoose” is a simple beach house with beautiful views of Coatue, Great Point and the Upper Harbor. The setting is extremely private, on a five acre property surrounded by 25 acres of conservation land. Yet you will be just steps over a private path to a quiet harbor beach and wonderful boating, down the road from the best windsurfing on Nantucket, and close to the island wide network of bike paths.

The name of the house comes from the sachem Nippanoose, the Wampanoag Indian chief who had a summer camp right here.

The beautiful beaches and tidal marshes of Coatue and Coskata are just across the upper harbor, a magical destination for a family outing.

Bring a picnic, sail a sunfish, swim in the calm waters, bird watch, go clamming, or just float and dream on the tidal currents.

The house is a classic “upside down” house, accommodating 10 guests in five bedrooms: a master bedroom suite with private bath on the top floor, a queen bedroom and twin/king bedroom with shared bath on the main floor, and a queen bedroom and bunkroom with shared bath on the first/ground floor.

On the main floor is an open great room including the kitchen, dining area and living room, with access to a wrap-around deck with sweeping vistas and wonderful sunset views.

On the first/ground floor you'll find a recreation room and laundry room, and access to a patio and back yard.

There is a TV/DVD unit in the MBR, and cable/DVD units in the main floor living room, and first floor rec room. The house is amply stocked with a ping pong table, croquet, and enough board games, DVD’s and light summer reading to last you through a spell of bad weather. Each room has a bedside CD/alarm clock, and the living room has a small stereo and iPod unit.

Window air conditioning is available and recommended for visitors arriving in July and August, although the house is naturally air-conditioned by sea breezes. The house also comes with a large capacity washer and dryer, high-speed wi-fi internet connection, and is well stocked with fresh linens, beach gear, and a full complement of cookware and place-settings.

You will have everything you need for a memorable vacation. But if you find you are missing something, or we can help in any way, just ask.

Nippanoose is made for creating special summer memories. By special arrangement a boat may be moored just off “your” beach so you can explore Nantucket harbor, or catch fish for dinner that night. A sunfish is on the beach ready for a sail in the protected waters of the upper harbor. Watch the amazing sunsets every night while you have dinner and share stories of the wonderful day you’ve just enjoyed.

Kayaks and bicycles can be delivered to the house, waiting for your arrival. Housekeeping is provided once a week, but special arrangements can be made for daily housekeeping, pre-arrival provisioning, or even catering for a relaxed dinner or clambake.

Vacation packages including fishing, golfing, tennis, sailing or other activites are all possible. Take advantage of the fact that our family has been summering on Nantucket since 1950, and knows about as well as anyone how to have the perfect visit to the island.
